The Grade 1 listed building enjoys a cliff top location on the Dorset coast and was built between 1831 and 1835 and incorporates decorative Medieval stonework salvaged from buildings in Normandy, France.
It’s most notable resident was probably Harry Gordon Selfridge the American-born retail entrepreneur who lived there from 1916 till 1922.
The Castle and grounds are normally open to the public and can be hired as a wedding venue.
Bagnall Narrow Gauge Locomotive – ‘Wendy’

‘Wendy’ is a narrow gauge locomotive built by W.G.Bagnall of Stafford in 1919.
She is a two foot gauge 0-4-0 saddle tank and started her working life in a welsh slate quarry.
I saw her running at the Bursledon Brickworks Museum in 2015 and used the photos I took as the basis for this painting.
